CanESS > Food Production > Food Biomass Requirements
Food Biomass Requirements calculates the mass of crops produced for human and animal consumption, quantities required for resource production and energy use calculations in other sections of the model. It comprises 3 procedures:
Inputs | Outputs |
---|---|
Canada total population (person) from Population | crop for person food (tonnes/year) |
crop food per capita (tonnes/(person*year)) |
Crop Use for Human Consumption takes Canada total population (person) from Population and crop food per capita (tonnes/(person*year)) to calculate crop for person food (tonnes/year). This is passed on to the calculators Recycled Vegetable Oil Available and Agriculture Land Biomass Disposition.
Inputs | Outputs |
---|---|
animals per capita (animals/(person*year)) | animal stock fed (animals/year) passed to Animal Fat Available |
Canada total population from Population |
Animals Fed uses animals per capita (animals/(person*year)) as well as Canada total population from Population to calculate the number of animals that require feeding. This is saved in the variable animal stock fed (animals/year) and is passed on to the calculator Animal Fat Available.
Inputs | Outputs |
---|---|
animal stock fed (animals/year | crop feed for animals required (tonnes/year) passed to Animal Feed Byproduct Substitution |
food per animal per year (tonnes/animal) | pasture feed for animals required (tonnes/year) passed to Animal Feed Byproduct Substitution |
total animal feed required (tonnes/year) passed to Fertilizer Production Energy Use and Animal Based Emissions |
Animal Feed Required uses animal stock fed (animals/year) from (2) Animals Fed along with the required food per animal per year (tonnes/animal) to calculate the required amount of animal feed. This information is saved in 3 variables:
