Food Biomass Requirements

Food Biomass Requirements calculates the mass of crops produced for human and animal consumption, quantities required for resource production and energy use calculations in other sections of the model. It comprises 3 procedures:
(1) Crop Use for Human Consumption

Crop Use for Human Consumption takes Canada total population (person) from Population and crop food per capita (tonnes/(person*year)) to calculate crop for person food (tonnes/year). This is passed on to the calculators Recycled Vegetable Oil Available and Agriculture Land Biomass Disposition.
(2) Animals Fed

Animals Fed uses animals per capita (animals/(person*year)) as well as Canada total population from Population to calculate the number of animals that require feeding. This is saved in the variable animal stock fed (animals/year) and is passed on to the calculator Animal Fat Available.
(3) Animal Feed Required

Animal Feed Required uses animal stock fed (animals/year) from (2) Animals Fed along with the required food per animal per year (tonnes/animal) to calculate the required amount of animal feed. This information is saved in 3 variables:
- crop feed for animals required (tonnes/year), which is passed on to Animal Feed Byproduct Substitution,
- pasture feed for animals required (tonnes/year), which is also passed on to Animal Feed Byproduct Substitution, and
- total animal feed required (tonnes/year), which is passed on to Fertilizer Production Energy Use and Animal Based Emissions.
